Polinode can analyze uploaded networks, run relationship-based surveys, and connect passive data sources through its organization offering. Users choose the data model, calculate metrics, and configure the visualization.
HiveHR collects active workplace signals: thanks for specific help, ideas, and reported problems. It uses them to build a relationship map and point to questions worth investigating, such as informal leadership, brokerage between groups, isolation, or dependence on one person.
They are not complete substitutes. Polinode is closer to a workspace for an ONA analyst; HiveHR is closer to a system for continuously observing team interaction.

Polinode starts with an analytical question
The researcher first decides which network to study and where the ties will come from. It might be an advice survey, an existing dataset, or communication metadata. The researcher then selects attributes, metrics, filters, and views.
This model is useful when an ONA specialist or consultant is involved and the questions change from project to project: testing collaboration after a reorganization, comparing communities, or finding brokers between functions.
HiveHR starts with employee actions
The network develops through normal product use. A thank-you records not only that a tie exists but why: who helped, with what expertise, and in which context. Ideas and problems add the subjects around which the team acts or gets stuck.
The organization has less freedom to design an arbitrary network study, but it does not need to launch a new survey or prepare a dataset each time.
How the platforms get data
Polinode
Its official documentation describes three routes:
- Network surveys. Respondents answer questions about working relationships, such as whom they go to for advice. Questions, participant lists, and supporting fields can be customized.
- Network imports. Polinode supports Excel, Google Sheets, GEXF, and JSON, making it suitable for data prepared in an HRIS, research system, or another graph tool.
- Passive data. Organization customers can use connectors for Microsoft 365, Teams, Slack, Google Workspace, and Workday. Coverage and refresh cadence vary by source. The documentation, for example, lists daily collection for parts of Microsoft 365 and Workday and weekly collection for Microsoft People. A blanket “every 24 hours” claim would therefore be inaccurate.
HiveHR
HiveHR does not inspect email or calendars. Employees intentionally create a signal and state its meaning. This reduces coverage because the platform sees only recorded actions. It also makes a tie easier to interpret: thanks for help do not have to be inferred from message volume.
The result depends on participation. Sparse signals or a short observation period should not be treated as a complete picture of collaboration.
Analysis and results
Polinode has the broader research toolkit. Its pricing page advertises more than 30 metrics, while the documentation covers centralities, PageRank, HITS, communities, and network and edge measures. Users can save views, apply layers and filters, work with matrices, and use AI Networks Chat to query a network or control its visualization.
That flexibility requires methodological care. High centrality does not automatically make someone a leader, and a dense community does not prove that an organizational silo exists. A metric produces a hypothesis that should be checked against interviews, process evidence, and business context.
HiveHR calculates network measures and groups relationships, but presents the results as management scenarios: informal leaders, connectors, concentrated recognition, recurring problems, and change over time. It is easier to move from the map to a question worth testing, but there is less freedom to configure the analysis.

A Polinode project can begin with an existing file or a small survey. Passive integrations require an organization setup and agreement on access and data rules. On September 18, 2026, published prices were $0 for Free, $40 per month for Lite, and $80 per month for Professional for one user; Consultant and Enterprise terms were quoted separately. All plans list limits of up to 50,000 nodes and 250,000 edges. Survey respondent credits cost $2 each.
HiveHR does not publish a fixed price; commercial terms depend on the project. A typical start is a 30-day pilot in which the team begins recording signals and the organization evaluates its first map. Before launch, define the management questions and who will have access to the results.
